The ‘tooth’ about Victorian dentistry

Victorian dentist

Dr Gabriel with some of the bone chilling implements from the exhibition

Staff have a chance to learn the ‘tooth’ about Victorian dentistry at an exhibition at the Victoria Gallery & Museum.

To celebrate the exhibition, Nasty Gnashers and Dreadful Dentures, Dr Gabriel, a ‘genuine’ Victorian dentist, was on hand to answer questions about dental practices – such as what was a tooth key used for.

Visitors to the exhibiton can find out why early dentures went very wrong and the bizarre and improbable cures for Victorian toothache and features one of the earliest and most important collections of dentures in the world, as well as an authentic and complete 19th century dental surgery, furnished with plenty of bone chilling implements to set your teeth on edge.
