Former Vice-Chancellor becomes Master of Balliol College

Emeritus Professor Sir Drummond Bone

Former Vice-Chancellor, Emeritus Professor Sir Drummond Bone, is to become the new Master of Balliol College at the University of Oxford.

Emeritus Professor Sir Drummond Bone graduated from University of Glasgow, and was a Snell Exhibitioner at Balliol from 1968 to 1972. He later became Professor of English Literature and Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Glasgow, Principal of Royal Holloway and Bedford New College in the University of London, and President of Universities UK while Vice-Chancellor at Liverpool.

Emeritus Professor Sir Drummond Bone said: “To be elected to the Mastership by such a distinguished Fellowship is an honour. That it is in my own College makes it moving as well as enormously exciting.”

He will take up his post in October.
