John with Dame Lorna at the ceremony
John Flamson, Director of Partnerships and Innovation, has become a Deputy Lieutenant (DL) of Merseyside.
Nominated by the current Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside, Dame Lorna Muirhead DBE, who is also a member of Council at the University, John will support the Lord Lieutenant in her role and represents her in her absence.
A DL must live within the county or within seven miles of the boundary and their appointment does not terminate with the changing of the Lord Lieutenant.
John was sworn into the role following approval of his appointment. He said: “It is a privilege to be asked to perform this role, ensuring that the Crown is well represented at events large and small in the area. It will also be good fun working with Dame Lorna who is an irrepressible character.
“I don’t think the duties are onerous but if you find me cutting a ribbon at some future community celebration be sure not to chuckle!”
