Liverpool University Press highly commended

Liverpool University Press (LUP) has been recognised by its peers at the Independent Publishing Awards.

Shortlisted for the Frankfurt Book Fair Academic and Professional Publisher of the Year award for the second year in a row, LUP was judged ‘highly commended’ in recognition of the narrow margin of victory in the category.

Bloomsbury, which has expanded through company acquisitions to publish 1,100 academic books a year, won both the academic award and the overall award of Independent Publisher of the Year, beating the winners of other categories at the event.

Anthony Cond, LUP’s Director, said: “For LUP to run the night’s overall winner – and such a large commercial publisher – a close second in the academic category is a remarkable achievement by an outstanding team. Liverpool also remains the only university press to have been shortlisted for the award.”

LUP was dubbed ‘a beacon of independent academic publishing’ by the award judges.
