Building stronger links with Mahidol University

The president of Mahidol University, Professor Rajata Rajatanavin, visited the University of Liverpool accompanied by a senior delegation including Vice Presidents and Deans.

The University and Mahidol first signed an agreement in January 2010, focusing on building collaborative research. This was followed by the introduction of a number of prestigious PhD scholarships, which honour the late Professor Stang Mongkolsuk and Professor Chamlong Harinasuta, who both studied at Liverpool before becoming the Founding Deans of the Faculty of Science and Tropical Medicine at Mahidol University.

As well as meeting research leaders at Liverpool, the visit provided an opportunity for the Mahidol students, together with their supervisors to discuss their PhD research with the delegation.

Professor Samar Hasnain said: “I was delighted that we were able to host this visit from Mahidol University. We were able to hear first hand from the students and supervisors about their research and it was wonderful to hear how much the students have gained from their experience at Liverpool.”

As a result of the visit, both institutions are committed to identifying ways of building on this successful relationship.

A call has just been announced inviting academics at Liverpool with a strong interest in research collaboration with Mahidol University to put forward project proposals in advance of the next round of scholarship applications.
