In Memoriam – Emeritus Professor David Mills

David Mills

The University regrets to report the death of Emeritus Professor David Mills who was a Professor in the School of English from 1963 until 2003.

He was Head of Department from 1999 until 2003 and continued to keep an association with the University as an Honorary Senior Fellow in the Department of English.

The Department have sent the following tribute:

David was a long-term member of the English department and an authority on Medieval Drama, particularly the Chester mystery cycle and had a long association with the Chester Records Office. He was a supporter of many medieval and renaissance endeavours within and beyond the University and was an active member of the Anglican Chaplaincy.

    I am so very sorry to read about the passing of David Mills. I remember well David’s tutorials: thought-provoking, fascinating and fun; he liked to get his students to think…and then to think again. David was a brilliant, gifted man, with a great enthusiasm for his subject. But besides that, I also remember him as a kind and decent person.
