Dr Peter Kahn was recognised for his work establishing enquiry-based learning as a wide-spread focus for innovative student learning
A University of Liverpool member of staff has been given an award from the Higher Education Academy for his outstanding work on improving student learning.
Dr Peter Kahn is the Director of Studies for the University of Liverpool’s fully online Professional Doctorate (EdD) in Higher Education. His award of the National Teaching Fellowship is in recognition of the work he has carried out to establish enquiry-based learning (EBL) as a wide-spread focus for innovative student learning.
In his role at the University he is responsible for delivering the Doctor of Education – Higher Education which is aimed at leaders working within education around the world and helps them to develop their skills, while studying remotely.
The Fellowship provides Dr Kahn with £10,000 to spend on his professional development and is awarded by the Higher Education Academy (HEA), a body that champions excellent learning and teaching in higher education. Among his other contributions to the sector, Dr Kahn has also written the HEA’s guide to enquiry-based learning – a system which underpins his work at Liverpool.
Dr Kahn, who works in the University’s Centre for Lifelong Learning, said: “Online study is growing rapidly around the world, but it does present different challenges to more traditional teaching.
“I’m very pleased that my work on enquiry-based learning at the University is helping to make our programmes successful and that it has been recognised in this way by the HEA.”
