Liverpool Professor to head radiation safety society

University of Liverpool professor, Peter Cole, has been elected President of the UK’s leading scientific society dedicated to radiation safety.

Professor Cole, from the Department of Physics has taken up the role at the Society for Radiological Protection’s (SRP), an organisation that has been at the forefront of promoting the science of radiation protection for more than 50 years.

Professor Cole said:  “I aim to increase our profile with the public and build on our existing work to encourage young people to consider a career in our area of expertise. As part of this, I am currently developing a three-year undergraduate degree focused on radiation protection.”

The SRP will also continue with an extensive programme developed by Professor Cole during his time as Chair of SRP’s Schools Outreach Working Group. He also represents the UK on the international judging panel for International Radiation Protection Association’s ‘Young Professionals and Scientists Award.’
