The UK Pharmacogenetics and Stratified Medicine Network has announced a new strategic partnership with the UK’s innovation centre for precision medicine, The Precision Medicine Catapult.
Founded in 2010 by Professor Sir Munir Pirmohamed, NHS Chair of Pharmacogenetics at the University of Liverpool, the Network has over 400 individual members drawn from academia, medicine, industry, regulatory authorities and patient groups across the UK, and aims to accelerate delivery of precision medicine to patients.
The Precision Medicine Catapult, created in April 2015 by Innovate UK, brings access to unique programmes, collaborations, initiatives and expertise from its global connections. It is focused on making the UK the most compelling location in the world for the development and delivery of this new targeted approach.
Ensuring better patient outcomes
Under the new partnership, the two organisations will work together to engage, promote and connect the precision medicine community through their websites, centres, events and workshops, both in the UK and overseas, ensuring better patient outcomes.
Professor Sir Munir Pirmohamed, said: “With the Precision Medicine Catapult’s commitment to making precision medicine a reality in the UK, this partnership significantly increases the impact of our network’s activities. We expect this collaboration to be highly effective as we work together to develop the precision medicine solutions which are revolutionising healthcare.”
John McKinley, CEO of the Precision Medicine Catapult, said: “The UK Pharmacogenetics and Stratified Medicine Network has connected many of the leading stakeholders in the precision medicine landscape, so it makes perfect sense for our two organisations to partner and deliver engagement. We look forward to working together to generate a world-leading precision medicine ecosystem and to our first joint event, the UK Pharmacogenetics and Stratified Medicine Network Annual Open Meeting on March 17 in London.”
