Students win £1,000 for plans to increase social spaces on campus

Students competed in our new Sticky Campus enterprise competition last week in an effort to walk away with the £1,000 first prize.

The Sticky Campus competition, which is organised by our Careers & Employability Service, asked students to submit ideas to make our campus more attractive as a place to stay and spend time outside of lectures, to study, catch up with friends, and engage with campus life.

Six entries were shortlisted, with students invited to develop the initial proposal and pitch their ideas to a panel of judges from the University.

After six fantastic presentations that demonstrated creativity, uniqueness and potential impact, the judges gathered to decide on a winner. After much deliberation, the judges selected architecture students Olivia Fearon and Rachel Cass as the competition victors.

Olivia and Rachel’s winning idea was to develop more social spaces across campus. Their scheme, named The Spaces In Between, aims to create spaces on campus that will bring students together.

Speaking about the competition, judge and Director of Facilities, Residential and Commercial Services Jenny Tucker said: “We were very impressed by the standard of the pitches all of the students gave in the competition – so much so that we will be inviting all finalists to act as key stakeholders in our public realm workstream of the Estate Strategy.”

Congratulations to the winners, the other finalists, and to all the students who entered the competition.
