The University is saddened to learn of the passing of former University Director of Finance and Registrar, Peter Gayward OBE.
Peter initially joined the University as Finance Officer on 1 January 1977. He was appointed as Registrar in 1988, following the resignation of Bob Nind, and demonstrated his commitment to the University by continuing in a dual role as Director of Finance for the next 18 months. He received an OBE in the 1988 Birthday Honours in recognition of his contribution to higher education.
Following his retirement from the University in 1990, Peter continued to be an active supporter of the Friends of the University, including serving as a committee member.
Peter was a valued colleague and friend and will be greatly missed by all of those that knew him.
His funeral will be held on Thursday 24th May at 1pm at St Hildeburgh’s Parish Church, Hoylake, followed by cremation at Landican Crematorium, Arrowe Park Road, Birkenhead at 2pm.
I was privileged to have worked for Peter for 10 years. He was such a gentlemen and we became firm friends and regularly kept in touch. I will miss you Peter.
