In photos: Top 12 highlights from 2018/2019

What an incredible year it’s been! As we head into our summer graduation ceremonies, we’ve been reminiscing about some of our highlights from the past 12 months.

In no particular order, here are our favourite #LivOriginal best bits:

  1. Students designed a tuk tuk ambulance

We loved hearing about Mechanical Engineering students Beth and Kiaya, who designed and developed a tuk tuk ambulance in the Netherlands.

We recently ran our first ever #LivOriginal photo competition. You can see PhD student Serat-E Ali’s winning photo on our Facebook page. Well done Serat-E  🙂

  1. London Fashion Week

It was fascinating to watch PhD student Jen Davies present Nabil Nayal’s SS19 at London Fashion Week. Jen co-directs the luxury fashion brand and her behind-the-scenes coverage of the show gave us a great insight into the world of fashion.

Did you know that in 1944, Chinese students at the University produced the first Chinese newspaper in the UK? IT was called Hua Chow?

  1. Varsity

Who’s the seven times Varsity champions? Not that we want to brag, but WE ARE! After some great and truly gripping performances, the University triumphed on top with a final score of 89-63. Huge well done to all of our teams. You did the University proud!

  1. Arion4

Our incredible Velocipede Team broke both the male and female hand cycle land speed records at the World Human Powered Speed Challenge in Nevada with their new bike – ARION4.

  1. Snow!!!

You can’t beat being on campus when it snows and this year we were treated to quite a few snowfalls and lots of stunning photos. Thanks for sharing everyone!

  1. When Titan the Robot came to campus

Back in April, Titan the eight foot high mechanised robot came to campus to share some insights about careers.

  1. Clare Balding

We were lucky enough to welcome Clare Balding to campus this year. Clare shared stories about her career, her love of horses, her experience of being an author and her relationship with her wife, Alice Arnold. Big thanks to our Liverpool University Veterinary LGBT+ Society for organising.

  1. Ski trip

This year we asked you to share your favourite #LivUniMemories with us and were treated to some spectacular entries. The winning video was this great video from the Snow Sports Society’s trip.

  1. Wellbeing Week

Wellbeing Week is always something we look forward to and this year did not disappoint. We particularly enjoyed the falconry.

  1. Trusty Paws

We loved learning more about our incredible vet students who have set up Trusty Paws – a charity that offers free check-ups for homeless dogs in Liverpool.

  1. Prince of Wales

Crowds gathered on campus to see Prince Charles, the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins and the Duchess of Cornwall. The Prince and the President visited the University to sign a joint patronage agreement for the Institute of Irish Studies.

Did you know that an X-ray pf a bullet in a boy’s hand was taken by the University’s Professor of Physics, Oliver Lodge, in 1896. This was the first time x-ray photography was used for surgical purposes in the UK? #LivOriginal

  1. Dissertation photos

One of our favourite things is seeing what you’re up to and we really enjoyed seeing this year’s dissertation photos flood in. Keep sharing!
