Temporary closure of the Guild and 502 Teaching Hub

The Guild, its catering facilities and the 502 Teaching Hub have been closed since Tuesday, 9 July after an issue with the water supply was detected.

Following an investigation we believe the water system was contaminated with body lotion and floor cleaner. We understand this is likely to be of real concern to staff and students, but please be assured that the contamination was quickly identified and the building was closed immediately after the discovery.

We understand nobody has become unwell as a result of this incident and we will continue to keep the situation under review.

Professional cleaning of the Guild water supply, and that of the 502 Teaching Hub, together with all catering equipment, has taken place and extensive testing of the water has been undertaken to ensure that it is now completely free of contaminants and safe to drink. Once the test results come back and definitively confirm the safety of the water supply, the building will reopen.

A police investigation is underway and, if you have any information relating to the incident, please contact Merseyside Police social media desk via Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook Merseyside Police CC.
