Students, staff and societies can apply for funding of up to £5,000 to support ideas, projects and activities as part of the Alumni and Friends Fund grant.
Projects considered for funding are those that offer wider benefit, supporting the student experience, providing students with opportunities not otherwise available to them (academic or extracurricular), offering long-term benefit, and/or enabling students and the University to engage with the local community.
The Alumni and Friends Fund is the University of Liverpool’s annual fundraising initiative, run by the Development and Alumni Relations Team (DART), which raises funds from alumni, graduates, friends and staff. In addition to supporting the University’s fundraising priorities, a proportion of unrestricted funding is made available to fund one-off projects across the University.
Last year alone, the scheme was able to fund more than ten projects that responded to a variety of needs and aspirations. These include purchasing a new sweep boat for the Liverpool University Boat Club, funding the International Vet Students Association Liverpool-Milan exchange, buying new tournament-level tables for the Table Tennis Club, and more.
In particular last year, the grant supported the Surgical Scousers ‘Women in Surgery’ conference, aimed at inspiring younger generations to be interested in a career in surgery. Inspirational leading female surgeons were invited to the event to speak about their professional and personal lives through organised talks about work-life balance, surgical application, etc. The conference introduced delegates to some surgical role models in a field that lacks female exemplars, and offered the opportunity to have an audience debate in attempt to break the stereotype in the surgical world that only men can be surgeons.

Surgical Scousers said: “The funding we received help us achieve what we set out to do and more. If funding is something stopping you from achieving something great, the Alumni and Friends Fund grant presents a golden opportunity. So, apply and make the impact you always wished to make.”
If you have an idea that will benefit students, staff, or the University as a whole, send the DART your application. Applications are invited from students, representatives from clubs and societies registered with the Guild of Students or Athletics Union, and University of Liverpool academic and professional services staff.
