University offers so many opportunities to explore new hobbies, meet new people and get involved in causes you are passionate about.
It can be difficult to decide where to start with so many choices available so to help you out, we’ve compiled our top picks on how you can get involved in university life beyond the library and lecture theatre.
Sustainable living and responsible consumption is what we are about. Getting involved in the Liverpool Guild of Students’ Green Guild is a great way to get back in touch with nature and encourage sustainability on campus.
Here you will find our very own beehives, an aquaponics food growing system and a place to recycle your unwanted gear/furniture with the Leave Liverpool Tidy circular economy.
If you’re passionate about the environment then this is a great way to make a difference and meet like-minded people.
The Guild offers ‘Give it a go’ sessions for beekeeping and gardening if you are interested in trying it out.
There are so many societies that you could join at Liverpool and if you are anything like us you probably wrote your email down for every single one of them at the Societies’ Fair (you are not alone).
It is worth taking a look at the Societies’ Page to see all that is on offer and decide which ones interest you most.
Remember that most societies have taster sessions at the start of the year so have a quick sweep of your email or scan through their Facebook pages to see when and where they are held.
If you have a cause you are passionate about then volunteering is a great way to gain some experience, make a difference and to network with others.
You can always organise your own volunteering experiences but it is worth registering as a volunteer with the Liverpool Guild of Students to see what opportunities are available locally and within the University.
If there is something you are passionate about changing at university consider running a campaign through the Liverpool Guild of Students.
Students in the past have worked on the Call It Out campaign and have encouraged the University to divest from fossil fuels by July 2020 with Fossil Free.
Take a look at the Campaign Pages to see how to get started and how you can make a change.
This year the Guild is also setting up networks for women, disabled, BAME, LGBTQ+, postgraduate, international and mature students. From campaigns and policies to events and socials, the student networks will be run by the students they represent and will receive funding, training and support. You can find information here or by contacting Guild Officer Hannah Nguyen on email@example.com.
Exercise is a great way to de-stress and look after both your physical and mental wellbeing. Sport Liverpool has some amazing gym facilities as well as a pool and lots of classes. If you’d prefer to take part in group/competitive sports have a look through the Student Sports Page to see some of the 50 clubs you could join.
To keep up to date on ways to get involved at Liverpool make sure to follow the Liverpool Guild of Students and Sport Liverpool on social media.
Over the next few weeks we will be encouraging all students to try out the NHS’s Five Steps to Mental Wellbeing. Keep an eye on our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts as well as our Student News pages for ideas around how you can get involved.
