Events and activities to take part in over the winter break

We understand that some of you will be staying on campus over the winter break. During this time there are plenty of events and activities to take part in, if you want to.

1. Keep fit with Sport Liverpool

Over the winter break the Sports & Fitness Centre is open. The centre will only be fully closed on the following days; 25, 26, 28 December 2020 and 1 January 2021. Opening hours are as follows:

  • Wednesday, 23 December – Sports & Fitness Centre – Gym: 2.00pm-8.00pm
  • Thursday, 24 December – Sports & Fitness Centre – Gym & Swimming: 7.00am – 1.00pm
  • Friday, 25 – Saturday, 26 December: CLOSED
  • Sunday, 27 December – Sports & Fitness Centre – Gym: 2.00pm – 8.00pm
  • Monday, 28 December: CLOSED
  • Tuesday, 29 December – Sports & Fitness Centre – Gym & Swimming: 7.00am – 1.00pm
  • Wednesday, 30 December – Sports & Fitness – Gym & Swimming: 2.00pm – 8.00pm
  • Thursday, 31 December – Sports & Fitness – Gym: 7.00am -1.00pm
  • Friday, 1 January – CLOSED

2. Magical Music Trails photography competition

All students are invited to take part in a new photography competition to be in with the chance to win great cash prizes of up to £600 and discover Liverpool’s musical heritage!

The ‘Magical Music Trails’ initiative asks you to follow one of the specially developed musical walking trails (see below) and take photos of what you see along the way. To be entered into the competition you should submit your photos to studentsuccess@liverpool.ac.uk with the subject line ‘Search – See – Snap’ by Sunday, 31 January 2021.

3. Changing Natures short story competition

The Changing Natures competition is looking for short story submissions on the theme of nature (including human nature), the environment or ‘taking notice’ of the world around you, with a maximum length of 1500 words. Winners will see their work published as part of The Great Read “Changing Natures” anthology in 2021, as well as receiving a cash prize of £500.

Winners across all categories will also be invited to take part in next year’s Liverpool Literary Festival.

When: Entries are open till Friday, 26 March 2021.

4. Halls activity packs

We are really pleased that we will be continuing the Halls Activity packs over the festive period. As usual the packs are first come, first served and are limited. It is extremely important that you register for a pack, and register for one pack per flat as we want to make sure everyone remaining in halls has a fair opportunity to take part.

5. Coffee and a chat with the Counselling Service

If you’re in Liverpool over the winter break, and fancy a break from the festivities our Counselling Service invites you to drop-in for a coffee.

When: Tuesday, 29 December 10am-2pm

Where: KnowHow room, Sydney Jones Library


6. Student Services wellbeing drop-in

Student Services will be providing a Wellbeing drop-in at the Sydney Jones library during the winter break – booking not necessary.

When: 10am to 2pm on Monday, 21 December to Wednesday, 23 and Tuesday, 29 to Thursday, 31 December 2020.

7. Royal Court Selection Box

The pandemic regulations might have stopped us putting on our traditional show but there will be singing, laughter and plenty of messing around as some of your favourite Royal Court faces take to the stage.

Our live band will be back, there will be comedy, music, prizes to be won and little bits of some of our most popular shows over the years. The only thing that anyone can guarantee this year is that you will be laughing all night at the Court!

8. Faith services

9. Get outdoors

Take a stroll around one of Liverpool’s open spaces. From parks to beaches, promenades and waterfronts, there’s so many places to safely head to on your own or with your housemates. Don’t fancy walking? Here’s some handy cycle routes.
