Whether you are self-isolating, or just staying in more during the lockdown – we know it can be tricky to find things to do to keep busy!

Each week we will round up some of the best virtual events, activities and careers support you can access from home.

1. The importance of LGBT+ inclusive education

A virtual roundtable event hosted by Teach First that will feature current trainees and ambassadors discussing the importance of an LGBT-inclusive environment, their personal experiences of teaching on our graduate programme, and their careers since.

Grab a hot drink, cosy spot and fire up your phone or laptop – it’s time to make some zoom BFFs from the comfort of your own living space.

3. Give Languages a Go – taster sessions

Did you know the University’s Continuing Education Scheme offer language courses? Try it for yourself and perfect a new language for your post pandemic holiday at our language taster sessions.

4. Virtual Career Studio extended opening hours

From Monday, 8 February the Careers & Employability team will be extending the opening hours of the Zoom Virtual Career Studio. You will now be able to speak one-to-one with the Career Coaches on Zoom from 11am-2pm every weekday, as well as send a message via Handshake at any time.

5. Workshop: Living with and Understanding Psychosis

This workshop is a very specialist session, delivered by the Early Intervention in Psychosis team; Clinical Psychologists and Mental Health Nurses. Some areas of discussion include:

• Signs and symptoms of Psychosis
• Expert lecture delivered by Specialists
• Dispelling myths around Psychosis
• How to recover, and how to help those recovering

6. Halls Pancake Day Activity Packs

7. Virtual Pub Quiz – LGBTQ+ History Month

Test your zoom quiz knowledge and storm to victory at a virtual pub quiz like no other!

8. Tabletop Society: Online Board Games/Party Games

Join us for some free online board games! We have a whole host of different board games and party games to play and a lovely group of people to enjoy them with. We have games such as online werewolf, codenames, cards against humanity, jackbox party games and more!

9. Tutor Trust Local Students Information Session

The Tutor Trust will be delivering a webinar to find out more about the charity, the paid tutoring opportunities they have available, and how to make your application stand out. You will hear from a member of the recruitment team and current tutors about their experience of working with The Tutor Trust, and you will be able to ask any question you may have.

Take your lockdown skills to the next level and meet other craft enthusiasts at our Crafternoon series.

11. Friend Making Social: Postgraduate, Mature & International Students

Through activities, games and conversation starters, this virtual event is match-making for friends, an opportunity for you to meet likeminded people and form friendships with others who share your experiences.

13. Model UN Society: UN Women: Period Poverty

Are you interested in engaging in thoughtful debates? Want to be a representative of a country? Come and join our first debate of the semester on Period Poverty as the UN Women!

14.  Be the Change You Want to See

Find out about career opportunities in the Civil Service with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. The event aims introduce the career pathways available and provide tips and advice to help with all stages of the recruitment process.
