Virtual events, activities and careers support available this week

Whether you are self-isolating, or just staying in more during the lockdown – we know it can be tricky to find things to do to keep busy!

Each week we will round up some of the best virtual events, activities and careers support you can access from home. Don’t forget to download the ‘My Liverpool’ app to view all events and create your own personalised planner.

1. CareerConnect Virtual Masterclasses

Our programme of virtual careers events resumes this week with the first in a series of masterclasses from our employer partners who will be sharing tips on how to ace online application forms, video interviews, and remote assessment centres. Sessions this week include Teach First, The British Army, and Network Rail.

2. Study Group Sessions

The Guild’s weekly Study Sessions are here to offer extra motivation and moral support to tick that essay off your to do list and an opportunity to share your pandemic study tip secrets.

3. Drag Herstory Quiz

Liverpool’s very own Queen of Victoria Street, Violet Period Pain, is taking to the (virtual) mic to host a very special LGBTQ+ History Month Quiz.

4. Halls Life Activity Packs

This week is Random Acts of Kindness week, so if you know someone who has been wanting a Halls Activity Packs but not got one yet – now could be the perfect time to order one for them! Likewise, if you want to order one for your own flat to hang out and enjoy together, you’re more than welcome to do that too!

6. TeaTalk

Grab a hot drink, cosy spot and fire up your phone or laptop – it’s time to make some zoom BFFs from the comfort of your own living space.

7. All about Summer Internships at EY

Join this webinar to get a real insight into our Summer Internship programme. We’ll be discussing the format and benefits of our internships, whilst also hearing from some former interns who now work as graduates at EY. Student Talent will also be there to offer hints and tips on the application process and answer any questions you may have.

8. Socially distanced sketching

Learn to produce some quick form sketches over zoom. Using objects in your house as inspiration we will be looking at object, shape and linework!

You will need:

  • A Pencil
  • Sketchpad/Paper
  • Something to sketch

9. Post-study work opportunities for international students

Helena Sheizon, director and expert immigration lawyer at Kadmos Consultants will deliver an webinar on the new Graduate Immigration and Skilled Worker routes for graduates.

10. Artist Led Workshop with Sally Olding

Taking inspiration from relevant artworks in the university’s art collection, such as David Tindle’s ‘Venetian Window’, you will be invited to respond to the view from your own window. We will use readily available materials and equipment (including mobile phones!). No previous art experience necessary.

11. Solve It Challenge

A competition for university students who would like to use their skills to help a non-profit to address some of their current strategic and operational challenges. Participating in this event will give you the opportunity to learn, meet like-minded peers, and do meaningful work that will have a social impact.

12. A day in the life of a Civil Service Fast Streamer

Join the Civil Service Fast Stream Ambassadors to learn about a “Day in the Life” of a Fast Streamer. With presentations from Fast Streamers on the Generalist, Science and Engineering and Diplomatic schemes, we hope this event will give you an informal insight into the Civil Service Fast Stream programme and what your day-to-day life on the scheme might look like.

LinkedIn Learning is an online learning platform that provides a myriad of training sessions, classes, lectures and more, based on three main content categories of technology, creative, and business.
