Union Black: Exploring Black British history, cultures, and steps to anti-racism

University of Liverpool students are invited to take part in a free online short course that explores Black British history, cultures, and steps to anti-racism.

The Union Black programme from Santander Universities was developed in response to Universities UK’s Tackling Racial Harassment in Higher Education report. The programme has been developed by the Open University with the aim of increasing understanding of Black British history, race, and racism, and how individuals can make a positive difference.

Hosted on FutureLearn, the course is delivered through a mixture of videos, reading materials and discussion forums. it can be studied at your own pace, and should take no more than 8 hours to complete.

How to enrol on the course

  1. Sign up to the Santander Scholarship Platform
  2. Click the enrol button and complete a short registration form
  3. Once registered you will receive an email with the link to the course

You will be able to complete the course until Monday 2 May 2022. There is no assessment element; instead, participants are encouraged to reflect on their own attitudes and values. All participants will receive a digital certificate upon completion.

Students who complete the Union Black course will also be entered into a prize draw for a chance to win one of fifty £500 awards, and be invited to attend a thought leadership event with high profile ambassadors virtually or in person.
