An event celebrating the winners of University of Liverpool Short Story Competition 2022 and launching the University’s annual ‘The Great Read’ anthology takes place this weekend as part of the Liverpool Literary Festival.

The Great Read Prizegiving Event takes place on Sunday 9th October from 1pm – 2pm at the Victoria Gallery & Museum. Click here to book your free tickets.

This exclusive event celebrates the winners of our annual short story competition which is open to all University of Liverpool staff and students. This year’s theme was ‘Looking forward, looking back.’

Author Patrick Gale will present the prizes on the day and the winning stories will be published in the University’s The Great Read anthology alongside short stories by James Joyce, J.G. Ballard, Helen Dunmore and Helen Oyeyemi, with free copies available at the event.

The prizegiving will be followed by an ‘in conversation’ session with PhD candidate Saul Leslie who won the ‘postgraduate’ category in 2020. Saul will be reading from his work and will also lead a Q&A session with this year’s winners.

The Liverpool Literary Festival is a fascinating weekend of discussions, readings, workshops and debates in one of the most dynamic culturally vibrant cities in the world. View the full programme here.
