Tips for protecting your home from crime

The dark nights might be on their way out but its important that you remain vigilant about the security of your student home at all times.

Simple steps to protect your property can make a huge difference to how vulnerable your home is to crime. Take a look at these tips from Merseyside Police to help you reduce the risk of being targeted by burglars:

  • Close and lock all your doors and windows, even if you’re only going out briefly – opportunists only need a few minutes to strike🔐
  • double-lock doors where possible🔑🔑
  • make sure that any valuables are out of sight of windows💻
  • keep handbags away from your letterbox and hide all keys including car keys, as a thief could hook keys or valuables through even a small opening👜
  • in the evening, shut the curtains and leave lights on🛋️
  • if you’re out all day, then get a timer device to automatically turn lamps on at night💡
  • set your burglar alarm if you have one🔔
  • make sure the side gate is locked🚪
  •  keep you bike indoors, or lock it in a secure shed or garage using a ground or wall anchor ideally🚲
