To celebrate International Women’s Day (8 March) and Women’s History Month, we’ve rounded up a series of events bought to you by Careers and The Guild this March.

Join us in the Career Studio for an exclusive International Women’s Day event

This inspiring in-person gathering offers students the chance to connect with industry leaders from top employers like Crown Commercial Services, THG, JLR, and more.

With limited spaces available, attendees will gain insights into STEM and the creative industries while exploring how professionals are driving gender equality in underrepresented sectors.

Campus Support Services – Interactive Empowerment Activities

Join colleagues from Campus Support Services for interactive activities designed to promote empowerment and raise awareness of equality, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Empowerment Wall: Share your thoughts on What makes you strong? to inspire self-reflection and meaningful conversations.
  • Photo Booth: Capture the moment in a life-sized Instagram-style frame and share it using #EmpoweredWomen and #DiversityInStrength.

You can also pick up a specially designed bookmark featuring inspiring quotes and information about Campus Support and the Safe Zone app—a lasting takeaway reminder of the University’s commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and campus safety.

History Society – Quiz for International Women’s Day

Join the History Society for a charity quiz in aid of Refugee Women’s Connect, with multiple prizes to be won. This event is run in collaboration with Politics Soc, Feminist Soc and SSPC Soc.

When: Monday 3 March, 7-9pm

Acoustic Night with Ellie Keegan

Acoustic music + your favourite female hits = a matcha made in heaven! Join us in Union Brew for a cosy night of acoustic music to celebrate Women’s History Month.

From 00s icons like Britney and Beyoncé, to the legends of Whitney and Stevie, listen to your favourite female hits all wrapped up in the talents of Ellie Keegan and her indie flair. So grab a drink, grab a seat and get comfy for an evening with Ellie.

Movie night: Women’s History Month spotlight

It’s movie time! Head to the Guild’s very own cinema room for a special edition of movie night, complete with popcorn and a post-film discussion. This film is part of the Guild’s liberation work More Than A Month.

More about International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day (8 March) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. The theme for this year is ‘#AccelerateAction.

International Women’s Day has occurred for well over a century, with the first International Women’s Day gathering in 1911, supported by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland.
