PGR 3MT® finalists and faculty winners announced for final event

The Academy are excited to announce that 9 finalists are going through to the 2025 3MT® grand final on 18 June following a huge amount of interest from PGRs across our three faculties.

The finalists and their presentation titles are:

  • Sharon Cooksey “Feel the fear …. and do it anyway?” (Humanities and Social Sciences)
  • Bethany Facer “In-vivo dissection of white matter pathways in Parkinson’s disease: tracking progressive degeneration and biomarkers of symptomatology” (Health and Life Sciences)
  • Concetta Gigante “Restoring banks’ resilience and saving the economy” (Humanities and Social Sciences)
  • Rukun K.S. Khalaf “Mother’s Nature: the environment and pregnancy” (Health and Life Sciences)
  • Farah Isse Mumin “Pandemics begin in communities — so should prevention” (Health and Life Sciences)
  • Stephanie Thomson “Femtech fertility ads: selling the illusion of reproductive control” (Humanities and Social Sciences)
  • Adefola Toye “How do you build universities for a new nation?” (Humanities and Social Sciences)
  • Lucien Tuinstra “Collagen in bone fossils” (Science and Engineering)
  • Farkhondeh Vahdati “Holographic construction in design for disassembly of Shekili-inspired emergency shelters” (Humanities and Social Sciences).

Faculty heat winners

Of the nine finalists, those achieving the highest score for each faculty are awarded a £50 Amazon voucher. This year, our faculty heat winners are:

  • Rukun Khalaf for Health and Life Science
  • Adefola Toye for Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Lucien Tuinstra for Science and Engineering

Grand final event – Wednesday 18 June

The grand final will take place at the Hope Street Hotel on Wednesday 18 June and will be attended by colleagues from across the University. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tim Jones will once again give the opening speech. The nine finalists will compete for the Judges’ winner and People’s Choice Vote awards. The overall winner will then go on to represent the University of Liverpool at the national 3MT® competition hosted by Vitae (read more about the national competition here)

We will also be joined on the day by award winning public engagement expert and international 3MT® winner, Dr Jamie Gallagher, who will deliver a workshop after lunch and before the awards ceremony.
