This year marks a major milestone for the University of Liverpool and Xi’an JiaotongLiverpool University (XJTLU), as we celebrate 20 years of an international partnership rooted in academic excellence, global collaboration and cultural exchange.

To celebrate Libraries, Museums and Galleries (LMG) is launching a joint photography display showcasing our respective library spaces at Liverpool and at the XJTLU campus in Suzhou, China. The images on display in the Sydney Jones Library offer a snapshot of student focused learning environments at XJTLU and were chosen by XJTLU students and curated by our University of Liverpool Student Partners. Similar images of our libraries are on display at the XJTLU campus, and the joint display aims to strengthen the sense of connection, communication and collaboration between our two libraries.

Students are warmly invited to visit the display at the Sydney Jones Library to explore how library spaces support student life and learning at XJTLU, and to reflect on the global opportunities available through the University of Liverpool’s international partnerships.

The display will launch at the same time as XJTLU’s own display in Suzhou, running from 11 to 24 May. This simultaneous launch reflects the truly international nature of the partnership and highlights how shared values can bridge distance.

Whether you’re considering studying abroad, interested in global education, or simply curious to see how libraries connect students worldwide, this display is a chance to see international collaboration in action.

This is the first collaborative project between the University of Liverpool’s Libraries and XJTLU Library, making it a particularly special moment. To mark the occasion, an opening ceremony will take place during the display period at 9am (Liverpool) and 4pm (Suzhou) on Monday 11 May.

The event will celebrate the collaboration and the wider partnership, bringing colleagues together across time zones to recognise what has been achieved – and what comes next.
