Battle of the Blues 2026 delivered everything Varsity is known for – fierce rivalry, unforgettable moments, and a university community united behind Team UoL. And once again, the University of Liverpool came out on top.

In front of packed crowds and deafening chants, the University of Liverpool defeated Liverpool John Moores University 94–60, securing Battle of the Blues victory for an incredible 11th consecutive year.

Varsity 2026 began in blockbuster fashion on Sunday 12 April, as American football took centre stage at Wyncote. With supporters lining the sidelines and an electric atmosphere from the very first whistle, the opening fixture set the tone for four unforgettable days of competition.

Across the week, teams from a huge range of sports battled for pride, points, and the Varsity title. From dramatic last-minute winners to dominant performances and fiercely contested fixtures that went right down to the wire, Liverpool athletes showcased the passion, resilience, and determination that define sport at the University of Liverpool.

But Battle of the Blues is about more than just results. It’s about the friendships built through training sessions, the unforgettable socials after fixtures, the pride of representing the university, and the feeling of an entire community coming together behind one team. Across campuses, halls, and sports clubs, students supported students in an atmosphere unlike anything else in the university calendar.

The competition reached its traditional showpiece finale on Wednesday 15th April at Waterloo RFC, where rugby union brought Varsity 2026 to a thrilling close. Under the lights and in front of passionate supporters, the final fixture delivered all the drama and intensity expected of Battle of the Blues before the Varsity trophy was lifted once again by Team UoL.

To every athlete who competed, every staff member who helped organise the event, and every supporter who cheered from the sidelines – thank you for making Varsity 2026 such a success.
