The University of Liverpool is a proudly diverse and international institution with students and staff from around the globe. I am aware that there are reports of anti-immigration protests planned around the country and in Liverpool this weekend and understand that this could be a cause of concern for many staff and students.
We want every member of our community – local, national and international – to feel safe, welcomed and valued. We stand together against racism and echo the statement from Liverpool City Council leader, Liam Robinson: STATEMENT | Planned County Road protest – Liverpool Express
Liverpool’s new Anti-Racism Strategy has been developed in partnership with communities and organisations across the city, including the University. You can read more about the strategy here. As part of this work, we’ve also collaborated with Liverpool City Council on the This is Liverpool campaign, featuring our students and promoting the message that Liverpool stands united against racism. I also wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the sources of support available from the University. More details about student support can be found here. We also have specific resources for staff, which members of our Staff EDI Network helped to collate: Wellbeing and mental health support for minority ethnic staff.
