The University has moved up eight places to 139th in the QS World University Rankings 2027, continuing a strong rise in one of the world’s most recognised university league tables.
Over the last four years, Liverpool has climbed more than 50 places in the rankings, which compare 1,500 universities from around the world.
The QS World University Rankings assess universities on factors including academic reputation, research impact, employer reputation and international collaboration. The results are informed by the views of more than 240,000 academics and employers worldwide.
This year’s results highlight the University’s growing reputation for world-leading research, the quality of its graduates and the strength of its international partnerships.
The ranking also follows another strong performance in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, where 12 Liverpool subjects were ranked among the world’s top 100 and two were placed in the global top 50, as announced in March.

The latest ranking adds to a series of recent successes for the University. Liverpool is also ranked among the top 150 universities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026,and recently achieved its highest position in more than a decade in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide.
The rankings are recognition of the high-quality education, research opportunities and global connections available at Liverpool, helping ensure a Liverpool degree is respected by employers and universities around the world.
