We’re proud to partner with upReach, an award-winning social mobility charity helping students from underrepresented backgrounds access meaningful career opportunities. Through this partnership, we fund 60 places for University of Liverpool students to access tailored career support, mentoring, employability training, internships and connections with leading employers.
One student benefiting from this support is Roman Nosov, whose upReach journey has already included a Professional Experience Week with Walt Disney, insight days with KPMG and the FCA, and being shortlisted for a placement year opportunity.
Reflecting on his experience, Roman said: “My confidence increased as I saw many incredible and talented students who share the same background as myself. I was not alone in the room anymore. I was part of an amazing community.” Roman’s story highlights the transformative impact that access, opportunity and support can have on students’ confidence, skills and career aspirations.

Why did you join upReach?
“I was at a University of Liverpool event and saw representatives from upReach. I noticed that the organisation supports people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, and I decided to join because I am a refugee in the United Kingdom, a mature student, and the first in my family to attend university.”
What has been the biggest impact of the programme so far?
“The biggest impact so far was attending Professional Experience Week with Walt Disney this June in London. This short internship truly equipped me with a clear understanding of Disney’s whole business model. It was a unique experience for someone in their first year at university. This experience was absolutely vital and highly motivating for applying to other companies’ summer internships.”
What skills have you developed through upReach?
“Commercial awareness is definitely the skill I have further developed with the help of upReach and my programme coordinator. I have now gained experience attending Insight Days with KPMG and the FCA. I am interested in joining similar events next year as well.”
How has the programme influenced your confidence and career aspirations?
“My confidence increased as I saw many incredible and talented students who share the same background as myself. I was not alone in the room anymore. I was part of an amazing community. Creating a stronger network after attending Insight Days and work experience with Walt Disney enhanced my employability. I hope that I will have the opportunity to attend one or two summer internships in 2027.”
Have there been any direct outcomes from your participation?
“After attending Professional Experience Week with Walt Disney, I have been shortlisted for a placement year application for 2027.”
Why are programmes like upReach important?
“Such programmes are crucial in the current job market. It’s incredibly competitive and, for underrepresented groups, these programmes are often the direct and only way to secure a summer internship, a graduate job, or simply to build a strong network. I strongly encourage motivated students to try upReach and see how their support can change your life for the better.”
