New students recommended to take up Meningitis B vaccine

Vaccination

Did you know that if you’re aged under 25 and starting university, or living in university halls for the first time, you are eligible for a Meningococcal B (MenB) vaccination?

Starting university involves close mixing at social events, so getting vaccinated is the best way to look after yourself and your new friends and course mates.

Who is eligible

Anyone under 25 starting their first university course this autumn regardless of where you live, and including international students.

How to book your vaccine

It’s a quick two-dose course, given at least 28 days apart. Because of the gap we highly recommend getting your first dose booked in as soon as possible.

Check your eligibility and find out how to book your first dose of the vaccination on the NHS MenB vaccination webpage.

If you are not yet registered with a GP in England (e.g. you’re an international student who has just arrived) you can still book an appointment via a pharmacy walk-in service. There are options for how to book on the NHS booking form above.

Sign up to a GP

We’re encouraging all students new to Liverpool to sign up to a GP here. This will give you access to full medical care while you study and live in the city.

Brownlow Health is a family of four practices in and around Liverpool city centre. They work closely with the University and our wider welfare network, including hall wardens, tutors, international student services, career guild officers and University counselling services. You can register online.

If you’d like to look at other local GP practices, you can browse them on the NHS website.
