The University of Liverpool’s Heritage Institute has announced the return of its Virtual Visiting Fellowship scheme for early and mid-career researchers based in the Global South.
This prestigious programme offers a number of funded fellowships for researchers seeking to advance innovative, interdisciplinary research in heritage related studies. Fellows will join a dynamic international community of scholars at the Heritage Institute, which serves as a catalyst for ambitious, inclusive, and interdisciplinary research that addresses pressing questions about how heritage shapes, and is shaped by, the contemporary world.
Professor Soumyen Bandyopadhyay, Director of the Heritage Institute said: “We are delighted to welcome applications for our Virtual Visiting Fellowship scheme and to provide early and mid-career researchers from the Global South with an opportunity to connect with colleagues and contribute to our growing international research community.
“Heritage plays a vital role in how societies understand their past, navigate the present and imagine their futures. Through these fellowships, we aim to harness heritage research to advance social and environmental justice, strengthen cultural resilience and generate impactful knowledge for the future, bringing diverse perspectives and disciplines together to address pressing global challenges.”
The programme was made possible by the generous support of Liverpool alumni, including Kirsten Suenson-Taylor (BA Archaeology 1983).
Kirsten Suenson-Taylor said: “The fellowships are a fantastic opportunity for researchers across the world to join a dynamic international community of scholars and share their knowledge and experiences.
“I’m glad to support this scheme which also enables Liverpool researchers to connect with academics across continents and harness heritage research to help address current challenges.”
The Heritage Institute is a university-level cross-disciplinary research Institute with the aim of bringing together researchers from the diverse disciplines currently engaged with the broad theme of ‘heritage’, as well as identifying new researchers and disciplines.
Applicants’ research proposals should align with at least one of the Heritage Institute’s key research pillars.
