The University is keen to ensure that the student experience offered at Liverpool is first-rate and recent market research indicates that in order to attract the best students, the University needs to offer more accommodation at its city centre campus – particularly self-catered and en-suite rooms.
Steve Dickson, Director of Facilities Management, said: “It’s important for the University to be able to offer the kind of world-class accommodation that will attract the best students to Liverpool. The accommodation sets new sustainable and quality standards for student accommodation and additionally provides much needed catering facilities for South Campus.”
The residences will be at the cutting edge of sustainable design and will benefit from a low energy heating and cooling system, rainwater harvesting, low energy lighting and solar thermal water heating. The development will also feature green roofs with potential for wildlife habitats.
The University intends to deliver the new residences scheme in partnership with the private sector. The University is currently negotiating with a preferred bidder and is hopeful formal contractual agreement will be reached in the near future.
