The University has been ranked 12th in the UK in the Academic Ranking of World Universities.
Compiled by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, the annual publication ranks universities by six indicators, including alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, highly cited researchers, articles published in Nature and Science, articles indexed in major citation indices, and the per captia academic performance of an institution.
Only the top 500 institutions are published, although 1,200 are ranked. The University of Liverpool is ranked in the group 101-151 overall, 35-58 in the group of European institutions and 12-15 in the UK. This is the same position as in previous years.
Harvard remains the top ranked University and Cambridge tops the UK ranking. Liverpool is grouped with Glasgow and Leeds. King’s College London has climbed 16 places and the biggest faller is Sheffield, down four places.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jon Saunders said: “Raising our position in international academic league tables is an important deliverable in the Strategic Plan. In order to do this we will need in particular to continue to improve our citation performance and raise the perception of our institution by our international peers.”
