The Department of Civic Design has been won the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Planning Award 2009.

Since its inception in 1908, the department has retained its strong ethos of public service and professional engagement in the development of planning education, becoming a model for other universities.

Peter Batey, Lever Professor of Town and Regional Planning, said: “The committee awarded the department in the special category ‘Contribution to Planning’ for the contribution it has made to the development of national and international planning education, research and professional practice for more than 100 years.”
