Charity begins at work

Readers of the last printed issue of  Precinct will remember three appeals for support from staff members who were baking, walking and cycling for charity.

Jeanette Appleton from the School of Population, Community and Behavioural Studies took part in a marathon baking session raising money for cups and cooking pots for refugees in Ethiopia and Sudan.

She baked 1,015 cakes on the day and more than £1,000 was raised. You can still give at: www.justgiving.com/Jeanette-Appleton

Staff were also encouraged to guess how many steps it would take Mark Walton and Chris Silker from Procurement to walk from Fort William to Inverness.

The combined total was 320,722 steps and they raised £1,700 for the Alzheimer’s Society. If you would like to donate visit: www.justgiving.com/chris-mark

Rob Lane, Supervisory Gardener at Greenbank Halls of Residence cycled from London to Paris in four days for the Macmillan Cancer Support and raised £1,360.
