MoU signing

Professor Jon Saunders, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Professor Carlos Pastor, Rector of the University of Valladolid

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the University and the University of Valladolid in Spain.

The Memorandum, on behalf of the Eye and Vision Science Group (EVSG) in the University of Liverpool and the Instituto Universitario De Oftalmobiologia Aplicada (IOBA) in Valladolid, strengthens longstanding collaborative links between the two research teams.

IOBA is the leading translational eye biology research centre in Spain and it has recently moved into a purpose-built building on the campus of the almost 800-year-old University of Valladolid. The EVSG has a worldwide reputation for its basic and applied research and has developed strong collaborative links not only in Spain but also with University Eye Departments in Hong Kong, the USA and Germany, and has established in the new Institute of Ageing and Chronic Disease in Liverpool.

The Memorandum aims to support joint research programmes in the development of advanced treatments for diseases of the eye and visual system and will focus initially on cell based therapies in the cornea, conjunctiva and retina.

The Memorandum will also promote the aims of both Universities to develop postgraduate research links and improve globalisation and the student experience.
