Labour leadership candidate Andy Burham visited the campus to outline his vision for the future of the National Health Service (NHS).
In a speech delivered at the Eleanor Rathbone Theatre, the Shadow Health Secretary warned that proposed reforms to the NHS – including the abolition of Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) and NHS Direct – will cause the “mother of all battles” when the NHS bill reaches Parliament.
Visiting the University as part of his campaign trail of the North West, the MP for Leigh, who is one of five candidates running for leadership of the Labour party, appealed to voters to save the NHS from effective privatisation in order to protect its future.
