The Merseyside Irish Business Group, in association with the Institute of Irish Studies, is hosting the 14th Annual Sporting Dinner on Friday 5 November in the Adelphi Hotel.

The guest speaker is Mick Fitzgerald, Grand National and Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning jockey, who after a heavy fall at the 2008 Grand National has worked as a presenter on At the Races as well as with the BBC and Channel 4 Racing.

Comedian Josh Daniels is back by popular demand and guests can enjoy a five-course dinner. A table of 10 guests costs £500 and individual tickets cost £50.

Patrick McCabe, author of Butcher Boy, The Dead School and Breakfast on Pluto is giving a lecture on his new book The Stray Sod Country on Wednesday 20 October at 6.00pm. Organised by the Institute, in association with the international edition of The Irish Times, it forms part of the Liverpool Irish Festival.
