BBC presenter gives free lecture

Jim Al-Khalihi

Scientist and BBC presenter, Professor Jim Al-Khalili, will deliver a public lecture at the University of Liverpool to discuss the legacy of the work of medieval physicists from the eastern world.

Professor Al-Khalili, presenter of the BBC science series, Atom, will present his work on the history of Islamic science and the wealth of knowledge generated by physicists between the 8th and 14th centuries.  As Professor of theoretical physics at the University of Surrey, Jim is a leading scientist in the study of exotic atomic nuclei.  In his lecture, he will ask how physicists and astronomers of the medieval Islamic empire influenced scientists such as Newton and Copernicus.

The lecture, ‘On The Shoulders of Eastern Giants’, is free and will take place at 7.30pm on Wednesday 3 November at the University’s Chadwick building, Peach Street.  No booking is required.
