A Liverpool resident has raised £1,064 for the Division of Haematology by opening his semitropical garden to the public.
Norman Conway planted the garden at his Maghull home for his wife Barbara when she was terminally ill with leukaemia and for the last three years he has opened it to the public to raise money for the Leukaemia Research Fund.
The garden is filled with semitropical plants, including Norman’s prize banana tree, olives, figs, a lemon tree and a rare Tazmanian tree fern. It is designed to act as a lasting tribute to Barbara who was actually a patient at Fazakerley Hospital but was treated by consultant Dr Rahuman Salim who now works at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.
This is the second donation that Norman has made to the Haematology Unit in recognition of the kindness that Dr Salim showed to his wife during her treatment.
