A group of Professional Services staff from the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences are celebrating after proving that BBC Two’s Eggheads can be beaten.
In the show filmed earlier this year, the team, ’Get It With Letters’ – in honour of their completing a quiz crossword over coffee each day – walked away with a £29,000 jackpot.
Tom Heyes, Gregor Govan and reserve Joan Robinson are technicians based in the Institute of Integrative Biology while Elaine Mayers and Hazel Cook-Higgins are technical staff in the Institute of Learning and Teaching. Team captain Ang Rosin provides IT support to both institutes.
Ang said: “I am a fan of the show and knew the statistics so when we passed the audition we expected nothing more than an enjoyable trip to Glasgow and to meet Jeremy Vine. I never thought for a moment that we could win. It’s not until you are filming that you find out the prize and which Eggheads you will be facing.”
The first category was music and ‘Get It With Letters’ hadn’t identified a specialist for that, so the game plan was thrown from the very start.
Ang continued: “At the end Elaine and I just wanted to get our three questions right and couldn’t believe it when the Eggheads got their sudden death question wrong. We were really surprised and absolutely delighted to win.”
Well done guys, watched the program thinking ” Elaine, I know her! we worked together in the old Sefton General Hospital Path Labs”
Well done again.
Congratulations to the whole team
