New sculpture for new Quadrangle

Frink

Front Runner, a sculpture by Elizabeth Frink, has been installed in the new quadrangle behind the Whelan building.

Elizabeth Frink was one of Britain’s leading artists working in sculpture.  Her images of generalised male heads and figures can have an aggressive warrior-like quality, representing inhumanity in the world, or like Front Runner, they reflect the vulnerability of humankind, as victims running away from something.  Elizabeth Frink has other work on display in the Victoria Gallery & Museum’s Sculpture Gallery on the first floor.

The sculpture is one of two gifts donated via the Contemporary Art Society from the collection of Eric and Jean Cass, who set up Cass Electronics.  Ndoto Woman (1992) by Wallasey-born Vicki Olverson will be located at Ness Gardens in the new year.
