The annual meeting of the Trustees of the Duncan Norman Charitable Trust and the recipients of the Duncan Norman Research Scholarship has taken place.
The Duncan Norman Research Scholarship was set up in 2004 following a generous £1 million donation through the charitable trust.
The University enjoyed Mr Duncan Norman’s support for more than 20 years, having served as a member of the Council from 1942 to 1963, including terms as President of Council and Senior Pro-Chancellor. He was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws by the University in 1964. He died in 1972.
The 2010 recipient, Stewart Haslinger, who commenced his PhD in Mathematical Sciences under the supervision of Professors Alexander and Natasha Movchan was at the meeting to receive his award.
This prestigious scholarship has now supported seven PhD students since 2004/05 across a range of research areas, from Philosophy to Engineering. The competition for 2011/12 entry is now open and further information can be found via the website: http://www.liv.ac.uk/gradschool/funding/duncannormanaward.htm or by contacting Rebecca Morton at r.morton@liv.ac.uk
