Professor Sine Larsen, President of the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr), has given the first Science and Society Lecture for 2011.
The series explores the beneficial relationship between science and society and Professor Larson spoke about the impact of x-rays on society to a packed audience in the Victoria Gallery & Museum.
The next lecture in the series is on Tuesday 1 March by Professor Sir David Baulcombe FRS, Head of the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Cambridge. His lecture is entitled ‘Reconciling biotechnology and organic crops’.

She also visited the newly commissioned x-ray structural laboratory which will be called the ‘Barkla X-ray Biophysics Laboratory’ when it is formally opened in July by Sir Tom Blundell and Dame Louise Johnson.
