The School of Music is hosting an evening with writer Michael Gray, who has written extensively on songwriter Bob Dylan.
Bob Dylan and the Poetry of the Blues is more one-man-show than talk, with wit and style, the author of The Bob Dylan Encyclopedia and Song and Dance Man III: The Art of Bob Dylan uses great records and rare footage to show how hugely Dylan has been inspired by the blues and how much of its poetry has been smuggled inside his own, highly influential writing.
Michael’s talks have sold out on campuses across the US and in theatres and festivals. In 2006, he performed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio and in 2009 Michael did a 25-date spring tour of the UK, Ireland and North America.
The evening promises to be lively and spontaneous, witty and acute using unpredictable slices of loud music to offer a thoroughly entertaining fresh account of Dylan’s achievements and a thrilling exposition of blues and its poetry.
The talk takes place on Thursday 17 February, 5pm – 7pm, in Sherrington Lecture Theatre 1. Refreshments are available during the interval. Email J.M.Bracken@liv.ac.uk for more information.
