Emily receives her cheque from Dr Dai Grove-White, Head of Livestock, Health and Welfare at Woodpark Farm
An undergraduate in Veterinary Science has won a prize which will help her complete her studies.
Second-year student Emily Sharp was the recipient of a cheque from phone company Phones4U after writing about her difficulties in attending her animal husbandry placements in an online competition.
Veterinary students have to complete 84 days at a variety of farms, zoos, stables and other centres during their vacation in the first two years of the course and Emily found the travel difficult.
She said: “The placements were a struggle as some were deep in the countryside with no public transport, in my first 12 weeks I covered 1,350 miles all by bike or bus!”
Dr Tim Nuttall, Academic Sub-Dean at the School, said: “Students get real hands-on experience on these placements and thanks to Phones4U Emily will gain that knowledge.”
With the money Emily plans to take some driving lessons and buy a car.
