Award for outstanding contribution to Manx culture

Reih Bleeaney Vanannan Award

Fenella Bazin, Honorary Research Fellow at the Centre for Manx Studies, has been presented with an honour from the Manx Heritage Foundation.

She received the Reih Bleeaney Vanannan award for her outstanding contribution to Manx culture, which is given annually to a person or group. It was awarded for her pioneering academic research into Manx music as Director of Postgraduate Studies at the Centre.

Fenella researched subjects which included the Manx National Anthem, West Gallery music and the links between musical traditions in the Isle of Man and Norway.

She has published several volumes in the Centre’s Research Report Series, the most recent being John Moore’s Music Book. She has also encouraged the development of popular Manx music and Manx music in schools.
