The University’s £22 million Heating and Infrastructure Project (HIP) has been shortlisted in the annual Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Awards.
The HIP is one of 13 buildings in the North West shortlisted and the winner will be announced at a dinner on the 18 May in Manchester.
Designed by Levitt Bernstein Associates the development benefits the University financially, moving from what was previously an energy inefficient heating system, the University is experiencing savings of 11,000 tonnes of CO2 each year, resulting in a 23% reduction in the University’s carbon footprint.
The awards are supported by The Architects’ Journal which celebrates buildings considered to be of high architectural merit and the judges take into account a variety of factors when considering entries including budget, size, invention and originality, detail, sustainability and delight.
Earlier this year the Heating and infrastructure Project won a Civic Trust award.
