MP Louise Ellman has visited the School of Engineering to meet a group of students who took part in a global competition sponsored by aircraft manufacturer Airbus.

The Fly Your Ideas competition challenged students from more than 75 countries to consider how to develop a greener future for aviation.

In total, 315 teams took part and the University of Liverpool team – comprising Aerospace Engineering students Kashyapa Narenathreyas, Mohammad Alam, Amanpaul Bhogal and Jacob Packianathan – made it through to the second round.

Dr Tim Bullough, Director of the UK Centre for Materials Education and the team’s mentor, said: “We always encourage our students to enter national and international competitions such as Airbus’s Fly Your Ideas, both as part of our engineering degree programmes or as an extra-curricular activity.

“This competition allowed the students to work closely and creatively with practising industrial engineers at Airbus, which is an invaluable experience and one that is great for their employability. They did extremely well to be one of only five UK entries to be selected.”
