PhD student heads to New York University

A PhD student from the School of History will spend the summer in New York City thanks to the US-UK Fulbright Commission.

Emily Trafford, an American Cultural History student was selected for one of only eight places and will attend the American Studies Summer Institute for a unique four-week programme which has been devised by the US Embassy in London in collaboration with New York University.

Its aim is to enrich knowledge of the United States among the next generation of American Studies professionals in the UK, in particular those who do not have extensive experience of the US first-hand.

This year’s theme is ‘The Reconciliation of American Diversity with National Unity’ and will include walking tours of New York and a baseball game.

Upon completion of the programme, each participant will be awarded a ‘Certificate of American Studies’ from the New York University Multinational Institute of American Studies.
