Two members of staff have been awarded honorary degrees by other universities for their work in local communities.

Laura McAllister, who is Professor of Governance at the University of Liverpool Management School, has been awarded two honours – a doctorate from the University of Glamorgan and a centenary honorary fellowship from Bangor University for her contribution to sport in Wales and to Welsh political and public life.

A former Welsh football international and national team captain, Laura was a Board Member of UK Sport from 2002-2006 and is currently Vice-Chair of the Sports Council for Wales.

She was an independent adviser to the Parliamentary Services Board of the National Assembly for Wales, and an expert on devolution and constitutional design, Laura was a member of the two-year Richard Commission on the Powers and Electoral Arrangements for the National Assembly for Wales that reported in 2004.

Director of Partnerships and Innovation, John Flamson, has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship from Liverpool John Moores University in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the regeneration of Liverpool.

He said: “I am immensely proud to receive the award having worked closely with the university for many years.”
